LAAMPS OVERVIEW
The Los Angeles Academy of Medical and Public Service (LAAMPS) incorporates many features of high school reform movements, which include creating a close family-like atmosphere, integrating academic and career technical education, and establishing viable business partnerships in order to meet key components of the Academy model. LAAMPS is structured as a small learning community within the Belmont High School. LAAMPS uses grant funds to implement a career focused curriculum, create a team of teachers who use interdisciplinary units, develop motivational activities and provide workplace learning opportunities for students. Career technology education courses that we offered to LAAMPS students include Introduction to Medical Careers/ Physiology, Medical Terminology and First Responder. Internships and mentorships are available with community partners in order to help provide students with field experience.
